Windows 11 Should I Upgrade?

Windows 11 Is Here Should I Upgrade?

Windows 11 Launched worldwide on 5th October 2021

After more than seven years on Windows 10 should I upgrade Windows 11
PCFixShop believes that Windows 11 is a good deal better than Windows 10 for all desktop PC users. But what if you’re still using Windows 8?   Microsoft were offering a free upgrade to Windows 11, for Windows 10 users.   Should you upgrade, or should you stick with what you know? Here are some facts to help you decide.

Windows 11 vs Windows 10 – Performance
One of the least talked about improvements of Windows 11, is that it does include a raft of performance upgrades.
Chief among these is bootup time, which is markedly quicker, while better hardware acceleration and a host of other tweaks mean general navigation feels nippier, too. Power management has also been improved, so mobile device battery life tends to be a little longer.

Gaming
Gaming performance is much more evenly matched, but with Windows 11 comes access to a newer DirectX 12, which unlocks more performance from your existing hardware including Auto HDR and Direct Storage.  It may seem like trivial stuff, but if there’s one single thing that's generally at the heart of the upgrades we make to our computers, it’s performance. So the fact that Windows 11 offers marginal improvements on top of all its other features is definitely something to be happier about.

Windows 11 vs Windows 10– Design
Windows 10 marked a stark departure from the styling of Windows 8, with flat windows and bold colours taking over from 3D-looking icons and round-edged and transparent windows.  Windows 11 continues this change, with the flat and bold styling now taking over desktop icons and other core system features. It looks great and modern.
There only a few big changes Microsoft hyped up when it revealed Windows 11 as mentioned above:
DirectStorage Xbox tech that uses fast SSDs to speed up game performance
A totally revamped Microsoft Store
Auto HDR Xbox tech that tone maps games without built-in HDR support for HDR monitors
DirectStorage and Auto HDR could be a big deal for your PC. If you don't have an HDR monitor still quite an expensive rarity in the PC world Auto HDR won't do much for you, unless you hook your PC up to a larger screen 4K TV.

Windows 11 vs Windows 10– Cortana
Now we’re getting to the new features that will benefit all users. Cortana is the powerful search and personal assistant that Microsoft first introduced on its phones, and now it’s improved on your PC.  Cortana can be used to search your PC for files and apps and launch web searches, but more importantly it also tracks your interests and monitors things like your calendar and regular places you visit. Combining all this information it can provide useful stuff like weather reports, alerts for meetings and directions for where you need to go.  Cortana is also integrated into the new Edge web browser where it will provide relevant information for the site you’re looking at, such as reviews and directions for the restaurant you’re viewing. It also supports natural language input, so you can talk to your device quite causally and it will understand what you mean. This will be particularly useful for tablets and other touch devices where voice input can be that much quicker than typing on a touchscreen. Some may not care too much about Cortana on desktop, though the addition of a big search bar on the desktop taskbar is certainly useful

Should I upgrade now or Wait
It really wasn’t much of a competition. All the mistakes that Microsoft could make, it had already made with Windows 10. Windows 11 has only improved things in our experience.  Is Windows 11 perfect? no, absolutely not, but is it the much better choice if you’re thinking of buying a new version of Windows in the near future.
